Eight moves, ranked by what they unlock
- Install GA4 and call and form tracking. The only analytics on the site are two Universal Analytics tags. Universal Analytics stopped processing data in July 2023, so the site has recorded nothing for about three years.
- Build standalone service pages for general contracting, commercial and tenant improvement, demolition and site work, ADUs, fire rebuilds, painting and fencing. Six services live as anchors on one /our-services/ page; only fencing (164 words) and painting (336 words) have their own URLs.
- Replace the schema with a GeneralContractor entity carrying address, hours, license, DVBE status, owner, services and profiles. The current Organization schema has no address.
- Fix the Capabilities Statement link. The menu link returns a 404, and the PDF that does exist is named "Draft" and says "past eight years".
- Refresh the proof. The newest dated project began in January 2019 and the footer reads ©2021. Add recent projects with photos, scope, city and date.
- Grow Google reviews. 13 Google reviews after 15 years in business, and zero on BBB. Put reviews beside every call to action.
- Own the brand search. People search "wolff construction" (the site ranks #3) and "wolf contracting". Make the brand, owner and license unmistakable in titles, schema and the Google Business Profile.
- Clean the index. Add H1s to 10 team bio pages, drop /no-access/ from the sitemap, merge the two hiring pages, and add alt text to the 11 homepage images missing it.
The rankings are already won. The site behind them is not built yet.
Wolff Contracting already wins the searches that matter most in Santa Rosa. The homepage ranks #1 for "contractors in santa rosa ca" (390 searches a month), #2 for "santa rosa general contractors" (436) and #3 for "general contractors in santa rosa" (390), terms advertisers pay $16.50 a click for. Behind those rankings: 15 years in business, BBB Accredited since 2013 with an A+, a BuildZoom score of 125 (top 1% of 336,931 California licensees), DVBE certification, a Marine Corps veteran owner, and Press Democrat, KSRO and San Francisco Chronicle coverage of its fire-recovery and ADU work.
The foundation under those rankings is thin. Every win lands on one 299-word homepage. The site ranks for 91 keywords, and 7 of its 9 ranking pages receive no estimated traffic. There is no page for commercial work, demolition, site work, ADUs or fire rebuilds, so high-value searches beyond "general contractor" have nowhere to land. The schema carries no address, the newest dated project is from 2019, and analytics stopped recording in July 2023. Competitors pull far more estimated traffic: Christopherson Builders about 1,768 visits a month, Wright Contracting about 649 and Holly Construction about 461, against about 61 for Wolff.
[ Data verified ] 26-URL crawl of wolffcontracting.com, BonsaiX™ keyword and domain data, BBB, BuildZoom, Birdeye, the Wolff Contracting capability statement and competitor websites. All pulled September 16, 2026.
The headline opportunity. Three moves drive most of the upside: (1) turn one strong homepage into a full service architecture (commercial, demolition and site work, ADUs, fire rebuilds, remodeling, fencing, painting) so every high-value search has a page built to convert it; (2) make the business machine-readable, with GeneralContractor schema, license, DVBE status, owner, a clean Google Business Profile and one consistent phone number, so Maps and AI engines see one trusted Santa Rosa contractor; (3) turn on measurement and reviews, so every call is counted and every finished job adds proof.
The seven questions, answered
- Biggest opportunity? Service pages for the work people search beyond "general contractor": bathroom remodels (94 a month at $24.44 a click), fencing (71), kitchen remodels (64), plus the commercial and public-sector work DVBE certification opens.
- Biggest threat? Christopherson Builders, Holly Construction and Wright Contracting: deeper sites and more visible proof, pulling 7–29× Wolff's estimated traffic.
- Where is revenue left on the table? Top-3 rankings landing on a 299-word page with no reviews, no recent projects and no path to a specific service.
- Fix first? Tracking and the Capabilities Statement link. Both take days.
- Fastest path to growth? Service pages, plus services on the Google Business Profile and a review request after every completed job.
- Immediate AI advantage? Schema that states the license, DVBE status and owner, backed by the BBB, BuildZoom and press sources that already exist.
- What would Bonsai prioritize first? Weeks 1–2 of the roadmap in §13: measurement, schema, the capability page and index cleanup.

A real Santa Rosa yard, a thin local signal
The office and warehouse at 3236 Dutton Ave appears consistently on the website, BBB, BuildZoom and the Google listing mirror on Birdeye. The Google listing shows 4.9 stars from 13 reviews and Monday–Friday hours.Needs confirmation Santa Rosa terms rank on page one, but county-wide terms sit on page two: "general contractors sonoma county" #11, "general contractor sonoma county" #12 and "sonoma county general contractors" #13.

None of the 91 keywords Wolff ranks for is a remodel, bathroom, kitchen or fence term. Those four terms add up to about 259 searches a month at $10–24 a click, and most are rated easy to rank for. ADU, demolition, commercial and fire-rebuild searches show little measurable volume. Those pages still matter because they convert the traffic Wolff already earns and give AI engines a clear answer about what the company does.

Give AI engines the facts you already have
The site tells machines only a name, a URL, a phone number and eight profile links. It does not state where Wolff is, when it is open, what it is licensed for, who owns it or what it builds. AI engines assemble answers from exactly those facts, and Wolff has strong third-party sources to back each one.
Structured data to add
- GeneralContractor with address, map coordinates and hours
- CSLB license 953433 and DVBE certification as credentials
- Michael Wolff as founder, with veteran service
- A Service entry on each service page; links to BBB, BuildZoom, Houzz and the Chamber
Content AI engines quote
- Answer-first FAQs on each service page (permits, timelines, what a fire rebuild involves)
- Dated case studies with city, scope and photos
- A /llms.txt file summarizing services, license and service area
[ Data verified ] Homepage structured data, September 16, 2026. AI answer tests were not run for this assessment.Needs confirmation
Count the calls, then earn more of them
What visitors see today
- Phone number in the header and a free-consultation prompt

- No analytics recording visits, calls or form submissions
What to add
- GA4 with call and form tracking; the main number stays on the Google Business Profile
- An estimate form that asks for project type, town and timeline
- Reviews and credential badges beside every call to action
- Recent project cards on the homepage, and a capability statement download for commercial buyers
Real credibility, not yet on display
Wolff has 246 referring domains, including HUD User, BBB, HomeAdvisor, The Blue Book, Porch and Expertise.com. But 17,421 of its 17,770 backlinks come from one site, nceca.org. Reviews are the thinnest layer: 13 on Google at 4.9 stars, 3 on BuildZoom at 5.0 and none on BBB.Needs confirmation
- Turn the press coverage into a dated News page that links to each article.
- Ask the Santa Rosa Metro Chamber and North Coast Builders Exchange to link to the new service pages.

The first five moves
- Grant access: WordPress, Google Business Profile, Search Console and any existing Google Analytics property.
- Approve GA4 and call tracking.
- Send the final capability statement with current years, license classes and certifications.
- Share photos, town and date for 6–10 projects completed since 2019.
- Confirm which services to lead with: residential remodels, commercial, site work or fencing.
Bottom line for Michael. Wolff Contracting already ranks at the top of Santa Rosa's biggest contractor searches and carries proof most competitors can't match: 15 years in business, a BBB A+, a top-1% BuildZoom score, DVBE certification and fire-recovery work the Press Democrat wrote about. What holds it back is structure: one page doing all the work, no service pages, proof that stops in 2019 and no measurement. That foundation is buildable in 90 days.
Let's talk about building the foundation.
Thirty minutes. We'll walk through this assessment, answer your questions, and map the first three weeks, starting with tracking and the service pages.
